The recording will open with the edit menu window to the left of it
Click Edit Closed Caption at the bottom of the list
The Closed Caption editing functions are displayed
You will see:
The Editing window, this is where your captions and timings will appear after being added
Start time: this is where the current caption text will start being displayed upon playback
End time: this is where the current caption text will stop being displayed upon playback
Notes:
- Start / End time format is HH:MM:SS
- The timings in the Editing window will also show milliseconds after a coma HH:MM:SS,msec
- You can type the Start and End times in manually, but you must keep the colons
- Times cannot overlap the previous / next caption times
The box below the Start / End time windows is where you will type (or paste) the required caption text
Add: after you have entered the caption text, click the Add button, this will add the caption and timings to the Editing window, see example below:
Pause recording while typing: by checking this option, you can play the recording which will pause when you type the first character
Apply: To “save” the captions to the recording after entering/editing the text you Must click Apply
Note: Do not close the browser or return to the course without clicking the Apply button or all your work will be lost and cannot be recovered
At this point it is recommended that you review the recording to insure its accuracy.
Best Practices:
- Keep each caption to a single line or sentence
- Separate each caption with punctuation or an audible pause whenever possible. This will make it easier for your audience to read the captions while keeping up with what is being displayed on the screen
- Apply your entries often to avoid losing valuable work
- To return to the course, DO NOT click the back button in your browser, simply click the course name at the top left of the page.
